This shoot was unlike any other...and the main reason was because it was purely creative one!

I’ve always been captivated by the Painted Hills in east Oregon. Every photo I’ve ever seen has always blown me away with how otherworldly the landscape is, the natural color palette, even the way a viewer's perspective can be manipulated. So even before I started planning out this session I had a gut feeling that this would be the location that really challenged me to be a better photographer.

Especially because in this industry one of the biggest hurdles is creating art that is memorable. It’s our goal to continually perfect the craft so that it's remembered and not summed up into a 5 second glance of “oh nice!” So with this particular shoot my goal was to work on getting out of my comfort zone and try a new approach to posing, settings and editing.

When I met Josh and Alex while shooting a wedding in Oregon, I knew they would be the perfect couple to help me create a shoot that was equal parts challenging and memorable. And let me say that they did incredibly! One of my absolute favorite things is when clients want their photographer involved in the planning process, things like location and outfit recommendations for example, and Alex and Josh were just that and more! I mean they showed up with a car full of outfit options and were down for any and all crazy ideas I had (see the last bit of the gallery!)

But while this location had its challenges for me both logistically and in creative vision I think that this session turned out perfectly. And with pride, I can say that this has quickly become one of my favorites….I hope you love this gallery as much as I do.
